Helpful Information & Trivia

When was lingerie invented?

The concept of lingerie as a visually appealing undergarment was developed during the late nineteenth century.  The term “lingerie” is derived from the French linge, or linen, and thus makes direct reference to the material from which underwear was traditionally made.  The first modern brassiere was simply two handkerchiefs tied together by a ribbon, and was created by a woman in 1913.  Lady Duff-Gordon of Lucile was a pioneer in developing lingerie that freed women from the more restrictive corsets worn during that time period.  Thankfully, a health movement for more relaxed undergarments took hold, and in the early 1900s women wore less constrictive bodices under their dresses. Camisoles and petticoats, then garters and bloomers, also came into fashion.

Since then, lingerie has come a long way and today’s garments are made with comfortable, high-quality fabrics and diverse designs. If you’re thinking about buying lingerie for the very first time, shake off your nerves and get excited! Lingerie is empowering and we fully believe that there is a perfect piece out there for everyone!

What size is the largest bra ever made?

The Guinness World Records has officially recognized the bright pink bra, which hangs from the ITV Southbank building (along London’s Thames River) and was unveiled on Oct. 28, 2011 as the world’s largest.   The fabric weighs about 165 pounds, and with the metal fasteners it comes to a huge 198 pounds.  The bra measures 88.5 feet under the bust and 101.7 feet around the bust. Technically, it’s a 1222B, but if reduced to human proportions, it would be a size 34B.

The bra was part of Britain’s Breast Cancer Campaign’s annual “Wear It Pink” fundraiser day. Last year’s event raised about $4 million to help fund cutting-edge breast cancer research.

Average cup size around the world?

Overall, the largest breast sizes are concentrated in Europe and the United States. The smallest breast sizes are concentrated in African and southeast Asian countries. Experts suggest this is due largely to both genetics, as the women in these regions tend to be smaller overall, and to the fact that the women of these areas often live more active lifestyles, which can decrease both body mass and breast size.
